Steven Goodspeed, a Shareholder in the firm, has practiced law for seventeen years, and is licensed in Texas and Oklahoma. He regularly represents clients nationwide in the area of nonprofit and for-profit transactional law, focusing primarily on churches, religious organizations, camps, outdoor recreational organizations, colleges and universities.
Because of the breadth of Mr. Goodspeed’s experience, he regularly engages in a broad range of projects, including general corporate matters, tax, exempt securities transactions, risk management, mergers and acquisitions and negotiating and drafting complex intellectual property, real property and employment agreements.
Mr. Goodspeed graduated from The University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in Letters with Distinction and earned his dual-degree Juris Doctor and Masters in Business Administration from The University of Oklahoma College of Law and Price College of Business in Norman, Oklahoma in 1999. Mr. Goodspeed has been a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys since 2008, specializing in the legal needs of private Christian schools and colleges. Mr. Goodspeed served as in-house General Counsel and Director of Human Resources for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas for over three years. As a result, he is able to provide a great degree of both legal and practical insight along with his substantive expertise to bear on issues of importance to all of our clients.
Mr. Goodspeed was selected as a Fort Worth Magazine 2012-2017, 2019 and 2020 Top Attorney in the area of Religious/Nonprofit Law and a 360West Magazine 2017 and 2020 Top Attorney in the area of Nonprofit Law.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Goodspeed also served as General Counsel to several Oklahoma-based technology companies including Bio-Cide International, Inc. of Norman, a global specialty chemical manufacturer and 180 Medical, Inc. of Oklahoma City, a national specialty medical products distributor. Mr. Goodspeed also served as founder and President of Goodspeed Land & Title of Norman, an oil and gas lease brokerage and title examination firm working in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. As a private attorney at the Taylor Burrage Firm in northeastern Oklahoma, Mr. Goodspeed concentrated on general civil litigation, condemnation/real property and estate planning and probate.
Steven and his wife and three daughters live in Flower Mound, Texas where they are active members of The Village Church.
